About The Artist

I am Jabbar Farshbaf. I’m teaching Persian literature and poetry. I like beautiful stories especially epics and enjoy the stories that are told so sweet.

As an Iranian researcher who is interested in Persian ancients and legends and as a teacher who wants to make difficult long and old texts, short and easy to understand for students, I happen to create "Shahnameh Projects" in which I can teach ancient Iranian literature in two forms: pictures and short stories.

The book

of Minimal Shahnameh, include short stories of the entire Persian Shahname Ferdowsi along with images of Shahnameh paintings. Each story visualized by a painting. Linking images with the written content makes readers enjoying the vivid scenes of the stories while reading.

Now what is Shahnameh Projects:

Generally There are three sections in Shahname Ferdowsi, that should be payed attention to specifically;

Those three sections include: Legends, Epic and Historic phenomenons.

Epics can include of legends as well as historic events, though it could evolve legends into more believable stories as much as it can evolve them into being less believable;  for example, it could turn powerful beings such as gods or goddesses into mere characters

As a researcher in the first beginning step of creating "Shahnameh Projects",  I started by summarizing shahname into a more minimal and easier version so everyone who are interested would be able to understand the stories of entire shahname effortlessly accompanied by pictures, so anyone could read all of shahname in only a few hours instead of reading the original book and facing the challenges of it; the collection named "Minimal Shahnameh", It is a combination of literature and visual art.

This project include: A book plus collection of 67 pieces of paintings that i done.

In the second step, I approached the three sections of legends, epics and the historic phenomenons to see where they all originated from;  in the process of it all i realized iran's history never stayed the same, with the culture always changing with every new period and iran welcomed all the changes within itself

That welcomed changes in culture making the origins of iran hidden behind it all. So i started tracing the clues which are divided in shahname itself; for example some certain words that i noticed that i didn't have a reference to and they are words or names and they were only mentioned once without an explanation ; those certain words are actually small hints as to what has happened in the past, meaning that these small hints that may be considered unimportant leads to hidden stories in Persian literature and history. So I'm bringing all these different stories into the light as a whole and publishing them as if they are hidden treasures, and that i would call the "Shahname Project"

Minimal Shahnameh

Combination of literature and visual art.

This project include: A book plus collection of 67 pieces of paintings, by Persian author and painter, Jabbar Farshbaf.

The
book

of Minimal Shahnameh, include short stories of the entire Persian Shahname Ferdowsi along with images of Shahnameh paintings. Each story visualized by a painting. Linking images with the written content makes readers enjoying the vivid scenes of the stories while reading.

The
paintings

are titled as each story of the book. The artist’s exceptional drawing technique and his uses of naive colors and writing the name of some special characters on the canvas makes each piece of painting more story telling style and at the same time completely modern and unique in this genre and category.

The painting are all the same size and technique, 100×120 cm, Acrylic on canvas.

Each project i created includes a book of Persian legend stories and a collection of paintings related to the stories.

I am also a self-taught painter, I started to paint when I decided to create the very first project called Minimal Shahnameh.

At the moment I am busy with the second project which includes some very sweet stories about Rostam lineage and Aryans.
